trafinz 2019

Smart, safe & accessible places

Read what Trafinz 2019 was about…

Trafinz 2019 focused on 'Smart, safe and accessible places' building on the people-centric success of Trafinz Conference 2018 'Prioritising for People'.

The ever-increasing trauma on our transportation networks means we all must consider the role we each have in delivering an integrated safe system as we go about delivering our business. Whether that business is setting policy within Central or Local Government, engineering solutions on the network, working with our communities, advocating for disadvantaged user groups’ wellbeing or front-line enforcement we are all facing a future of change. Vision Zero must be the aspirational goal moving forward.

Emerging technology provides lots of opportunities for potentially addressing this trauma – but are we ready for this technology? Will we ensure that the full benefits are appropriately realized?  SMART transportation also offers alternatives for the public and how they travel, and for road controlling authorities to proactively manage their networks to ensure optimization of existing assets can be achieved.  Will technology be the magic bullet?

Today, increasing numbers of people see busy central cities as their neighbourhood, spaces where we work, live and play within our communities. Alternatively small rural populations are struggling to retain their community as essential services and employment are only available in those busy central cities. Creating accessible and enjoyable places designed for people has multiple benefits - for the transportation system, the health system and the local economy. How can we ensure that we are maximizing the benefits out of the large amounts of money being spent daily within our transport network?

Trafinz is excited to have world leading experts coming to Hamilton to share their experiences via presentations and interactive workshops.  The 2019 conference focused on:

·         Safe system principles and road safety outcomes for people

·         Placemaking that is designed for people

·         Accessibility for people and wellbeing

·         Smart transportation for people

Our daily journeys need do more than leave us alive, they must enable the life we choose and empower people to improve their lives within communities that are thriving and are environmentally sustainable.  To achieve that we must work together to create vibrant, healthy and sustainable communities for people.

Conference Convenor

In 2017 I attended my first Trafinz Conference and I thought it was great. Great app, very good and interesting speakers, great food, fun. It also gave me a more global view on traffic/transport challenges and I felt I added more value to our Access Hamilton Task Force.
